What is Hypnosis?

What exactly is hypnosis? Think of it as an extreme sort of virtual reality! When you’ve fully entered a deep state of trance, you’ll be able to see, hear, smell, taste and touch things that aren’t there as if they actually are.

Think of the times you have been extremely focused on something. Maybe you were watching a movie or television program and you didn’t hear the phone ring or the other person in the room say your name. Maybe you were reading a book and all of a sudden the words on the page came to life and you saw the action right in front of your eyes. Maybe you were working on a task that became so supremely important that it seemed like no distractions could break through your concentration. These are all examples of hypnosis.

Is hypnosis safe? Absolutely! It is an entirely naturally occurring phenomenon. Every one of us goes into a state of hypnosis several times every day. It’s so safe that you often drive in a light state of trance that we call “highway hypnosis”. No one has ever gotten sick or hurt from being in a state of hypnosis.

Can anyone be hypnotized? Yes. As long as you can concentrate on what the hypnotist is saying, follow the directions he gives you, and intend to go into hypnosis, you can be hypnotized.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis? No. It will only last as long as the hypnotist is giving suggestions to your unconscious mind. Without the suggestions being given, you would only stay in a state of trance for around 10 minutes.

Will the suggestions last forever? That depends. Hypnosis is an powerful therapeutic tool, that can bring about permanent, positive changes to your life! However, when hypnosis is used as a form of entertainment, the suggestions will only be temporary.
